For a brief biog of our partners and associates, please see below. Greg McCartney ~ background. Greg originally qualified as a Barrister at Middle Temple, London in 1984. He returned to take up a position in Derry working for a Solicitors firm which specialised mainly in Criminal Law and which was heavily involved in representing Defendants in the so-called “Supergrass trials” in the mid 1980s. He subsequently re-qualified in 1984 as a Solicitor at the Institute of Professional Legal Studies at Queens University Belfast and was awarded the Martin Mc Birney Memorial Prize for outstanding achievement in Criminal Procedure during his study at Queens. He spent 4 years practising in Derry as an Assistant Solicitor in the firm of Fergus Mc Cafferty & Co specialising largely in criminal defence work, civil litigation and conveyancing before setting up the firm of McCartney & Co in June 1992 and then later that year joining forces with Kevin Casey to form the current McCartney & Casey partnership. From 1988 to 1993 Greg was also an Associate Lecturer in Company Law and Housing Law at the University of Ulster at Magee Campus, Derry He was most recently engaged in representing the family of the late James Wray, one of those killed in the events of “Bloody Sunday” in Derry on 30th January 1972 when 14 innocent civilians were killed and a similar number wounded by British Army Soldiers from the 1st Battalion of the Parachute Regiment during a civil rights demonstration. read more At present he is representing one of the families involved in the Inquiry into Hyponatraemia Related Deaths in Northern Ireland recently announced by the Health Minister and being chaired by John O’Hara QC. read more Greg was admitted as a Solicitor in Dublin in 2006 and is now uniquely qualified to practice throughout Ireland.     Kevin Casey ~ background. Kevin graduated from the University of Wales with an LLB (Hons) and was admitted as a Solicitor in 1990 after completing his apprenticeship with the firm of Brendan Kearney & Co. He practised as an Assistant Solicitor with the Derry firm of Fergus McCafferty & Co from 1990 to 1992 specialising in criminal defence work and civil litigation before joining forces with Greg McCartney to form the partnership of McCartney & Casey. Over his years in practice he has represented defendants in many high profile criminal trials and is presently engaged in preparing the defence on behalf of a number of the anti-war campaigners who were arrested after a protest at the Derry headquarters of US Defence conglomerate Raytheon against the war in Iraq. Kevin also has extensive experience in liquor licensing and has obtained licences for hotels, restaurants and public houses across the North. He also has considerable expertise in personal injury litigation. ASSOCIATE Aisling Anderson ~ background. Aisling graduated from the University of Ulster and Qualified as a Solicitor in 2002. She carried out her apprenticeship at Brendan Kearney & Co Solicitors and practised in Oliver Roche & Co Solicitors,Strabane for one year before joining McCartney & Casey Solicitors in 2003. Aisling mainly focuses on Residential Conveyancing, Matrimonial and Litigation matters.
